Undeniable wild, primordially charming, and a terrific wildlife-watching destination, Tsavo East National Park feels wild and undiscovered; its vast open spaces are mesmerizing. The huge, semi-arid wilderness is home to most safari animals, and although wildlife densities aren’t large, spotting animals is always possible here due to the lack of foliage. The sight of dust-red elephants wallowing, rolling, and spraying each other with the midnight blue waters of the palm-shaded Galana River is one of the most evocative images here. These features, along with the 300-kilometer-long Yatta Plateau, which is the longest lava flow in the world, combine to create an adventure unlike any other in Tsavo East.
