Tsavo West
Tsavo West
Covering a huge variety of landscape, from swamps, natural springs, and rocky peaks to extinct volcanic cones, rolling plains, and sharp outcrops dusted with greenery, Tsavo West National Park is dramatically rewarding. From the sight of fifty million gallons of crystal-clear water gushing out of the parched lava rock that is the Mzima Springs, to Shetani lava flows, Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness.
The park is historically famous for the Man-eaters of Tsavo, two maneless lions that developed a taste for hunting humans during the early 1900’s. These lions were eventually shot after they had killed 130 people working on the Mombasa-Nairobi railway line. Additionally, the area served as a major battleground between the British and Germans during World War I.
